honeymoon’s over.

cake’s all gone.

stack the dance floor

back in Pawpaw’s barn.

moon’s rising.

bonfire’s hot.

prairie women’re

a scandalous lot.

start the pickup.

wipe those feet.

never knew the moon

gave off such heat.

fold the linens.

wipe the floors.

aprons on hips look

like something to eat.

cake’s all gone

but the sugar’s not.

never knew the moon
